It Walks Around The House At Night - The Lowry
AN out of work actor thinks he’s found his dream job when asked to play a ghost at a remote country manor house.
Its a passport away from his financial problems, with his macabre employer offering him several thousand pounds for what appears to be the easiest of roles.
But poor Joe discovers his new place of work is also home to the darkest of secrets in a play that sends a very palpable chill through The Lowry’s Quays Theatre, the perfect setting for a spooky story that’s sure to have some audience members flinching in their seats as the horror unfolds.
George Naylor delivers what can only be described as the complete performance as Joe, combining the verbal and the physical with an effortless ease and his ensures ever word of the script isn’t wasted in a production that’s sure to live long in the memories of those brave enough to book tickets.
But there are also one or two moments of light relief as Joe finds himself embroiled in what only can be described as a personal nightmare.
Any budding actors who buy tickets may be forgiven for leaving the theatre feeling well and truly depressed after watching Naylor, an actor well and truly at the top of his craft.
It Walks Around The House At Night is the first production I’ve seen from ThickSkin and it certainly wets the appetite for more.
There’s an intensity that’s unforgiving and unrelenting about Tim Foley’s dark and at times deeply unsettling piece. Prepare to be spooked and entertained and captivated, in equal measure.
Until November 7. Tickets are available from 0343 208 6000 or online at www.thelowry.com.
Star rating - 4 out of 5.
